Code of the Woosters 1A

Code of the Woosters--PG Wodehouse
was referred by E Lockhart (Jenkins) last read (Frankie Landeau-Banks)
took a lot of work and research to reconstruct 1030s London.
Suprises: of PGW--mocking of the German dictator via Swope.
Spin offs of mocking war during the interwar: see Veterans of Future Wars (Princeton) college pranks.

grammar ESL: the shortening of words--dropping -tion and leaving tsh....
(reverse mirrored in E Lockhart grammar dropping prefixes)

pp 286 slow going due to number of characters, complexity of plot/motivation/and antique idioms. Just a weaving and unweaving. Some dashing spirits. some truth of PREP: the possibility that hidden knowledge, secrets, may be revealed. That someone's stiffness will be tricked into opening up. But always a trick...here much dealmaking. negotiating with threats though. Secrets held and threat of secrets revealed. Eulalie!!!

also: What is the code of the woosters?
what is the attraction of the book? (obscure british allusions, including Manor as character, and CLUE like plots?)
what is the context? Total institution of Aunts and buffoons? (no senior intact marriages, actually) Marriage as a motive. "Psychology of the individual"....

possible uses: Clue-themed course? (too light?, or okay for summer diversion)

Direputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks 1

Finished The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.
ESL grammar: de-prefixing.
ESL collegiate subculture1: pranking and Vassar
ESL US sociology1: glass ceiling: see BooknotesTV Sept 7 08: Judith Neis and autobio of 1960s and woman's libbers during the '60s--link in to Vassar 1969 co-ed.
ESL subculture2:RETURN: sociology1 at PA.

somewhat contrived: taking pranks from prank sites and reversing grammar omissions from PG Wodehouse. I like Prep so much better!
